I pulled the door closed.

“They'll never find us in here.”

"No one’s looking for us, Steve. We haven't done anything, yet."

"But when we do, they won't find us."

"If we rob this museum, this is the first place they'll look."

Tony is a worrier. I’m more of a glass-half-full kinda guy.

“They have alarms and infrared thingamajigs that just got activated because you pulled the security door shut.”

I work here, but I didn't think of that.

“I know that, “I lied. “I have a plan.”

I didn't, but if I admitted that, he'd lose confidence in me; we haven’t known each other for that long.

“So, Steve, what's next?”

“We find the safe.”

“Do you have the combination?”

“You don't, do you, Steve?”

“No, I don’t.”

“Are there any other ways out of here after hours?”

“Freight entrance. I have the code. Why?”

“We don’t have the combination or any safe-cracking tools.”

Well, let’s steal something else while we’re in here.”

“Let’s just go, before an alarm goes off.”

“Tony! What about Cleopatra’s jewels?”

“They stay right where they are,” Tony said, “Seriously, Steve, which way is out?”

He had made some valid points, so I led him to the freight area. We jumped over or slid under the infrared thingamajigs, just like in the movies.

Once we were away from the museum, Tony asked, “Now what, Steve?”

“Let's grab a beer, partner, and plan our next heist.”

And that's when he pulled out the cuffs.

“Sorry, Steve. I’m undercover. Been watching you for some time.”

He slapped the cuffs on me and read me my rights. “You have the right to remain silent…."

I think that ship has sailed.
