Who Are You? The fan swirled overhead, a nice breeze came through the front door. My clock ticked off the minutes til bed. A wonderful, peaceful evening would soon come to an end. I was fading fast. Until… “Do you know who I am?” I jumped off the couch. A large person just appeared in the chair next to me. “Who are you?” “Yes me, do you know who I am?” I had no idea. Surprise was greater than fear. “Well, no, who are you?” I asked, inching my way toward the door. “Do you know who I am?” This person, man or woman, sat calmly in the chair. Long black hair, dark shirt and dark pants. It could be a male or a female. I couldn’t really decide. “You are a stranger in my home. That’s all I know.” Where was my phone? The person stood, walked toward me as I bumped the door. This person then changed into me. “Now do you know who I am?” But I am standing right here, by the door. How can I be in front of me? Trick of the mind, it had to be that. “You cannot be me, it’s a trick. I must be asleep, dreaming.” There is no one else in the world that looks like me, no twin. So who or what is this person? “If you are me, and I am you, then you can read my, or rather, your mind. What am I thinking right now?” This will surely be the test. I stood my ground as I walked toward me. “I think it should leave a mess.” W/C 269 |
