At 20, I got some sense to analyze the contents I have been exposed through my screen.
Hey,
Does it ever trigger you that since childhood we have been exposed to seek unrealistic pleasure? It does to me.
Whether it be 'Hansel and Gretel' or the 'Disney Fairy Tales', I read when I was 10, Bollywood movies and Series I watched and the books of Nicholas Sparks I adored during my adolescents and the high school -love triangle -mean girls K-drama and Webtoon I still enjoy watching and reading; unconsciously these all have influenced me some way or another to chase for the non-existence heavenward frictional glee.
It is really stupid that 'Disney Fairy Tales' can literally make young girls believe that being a kind-hearted, bountiful, and credulous person will ensure that no bad things are ever going to happen to you as you will always have your prince charming come and save you. OUCH! I don't know whether it will be harsh for me to say this or not, but you and I both should know the truth, he doesn't exist! And he never will! And you will be screwed if you keep waiting!
'Hansel and Gretel' creating such a negative impact that you should never love or care for anyone who isn't connected to you biologically. And that no one shall ever give you warmth than the one whom you are connected to by blood. It hurts! This makes us skeptical to give people one thing which is priceless; LOVE and generates a false hope for someone who doesn't have anyone related by blood that he/she is incapable of receiving LOVE!
I have seen two strangers supporting each other and helping each other grow and brothers fighting. It doesn't matter how you are connected to someone. What does is the character one carries and that is how the person is going to treat you. But you should learn to love yourself, give yourself the warmth you need and never sink your emotions into how others behave to you.
And where the hell do I start with Bollywood movies? How come the majority of highest profit earning Bollywood movies have promoted toxic men, toxic masculinity, and patriarchy? Bollywood movies have literally left an impression on young guys to be creepy stalkers, harass women, be abusive and motivate them to develop toxic masculinity. I guess there is one thing I can be certain of; We don't want 'Kabir Singh'!
I think I can say 'Girls, fucked up boys never change just for you and you aren't his rehabilitation center. And boys, we find you creepy when you think you can impress us by constantly stalking us and you harassing us will someday make our heart change.NO! Maybe your biceps is eye-catching, but your muscles, beard, dominating, harassing, and bullying nature is the false definition you have for manhood."
Those exotic movies, books giving hopeless hope that your success parameter is the wealth you accumulate, there is one person out there for everyone, you being a pure soul can fight the entire corrupt system on your own without losing anything, the bad people don't win, men who display emotions are weak, bullying and putting others down makes you cool, though he likes the horny one-you(the timid one) are who he wants to take home, a person who never feels for emotions can fall if you give them enough love, it is okay to make fun of others sexuality and the list goes on.
Nicholas Sparks books define love in the most beautiful way and make you crave for it endlessly. How do I convince myself, it is not okay to think stories are ever going to be like Jamie and Landon or Noah and Allie! The K-drama whose stories make you cringe on it and set a standard. 'I need Nam Do San, Suho or where will I find Hee Joon, Moon Gang', and the list goes on! I still don't know whether it is telling me not to settle for less or setting my standards too high!
But I believe there are few things I need to be realistic about:
AHHH! There are things that are precious and priceless; your time, your health, the food you get to eat, the air you breathe in, the loved ones you are surrounded with. Let's be grateful for it and let's stop chasing the definition of success someone defined. No person is ever born for you. You get along with them depending on how much you can respect each other despite having differences. Love and relationships, self-respect and ego, compromise and toxicity are two different things, you got to identify them well! The love you can have can only blossom if you have enough love within you.
The world is fucked up. The Mafia families are there in every sector (be it health, education, journalism, politics). The entire system is corrupted. You are never going to win the battle alone, the only battle you can win is with yourself. The good ones don't always win. Having feminine nature doesn't make you less men. We love those who can give respect without looking at our skin color, sexuality, financial condition, nationality, or even when we have beliefs opposite to them. The only thing that is certain is the uncertainty and what makes a difference is how you process emotions and perform your action!
