ANIMAL KINGDOM SNAKE KINGDOM NO. 1; BLACK MAMBA -This snake gets its name from the black inky color in its mouth. -This snake has neurotoxic venom that can kill 20 men in 20 minutes. -It is the most venomous snake in Africa. -It is also the fastest snake in Africa. -It feeds on small birds, rats, kittens and other rodents. -It can reach up to 10 feet in length. -It is also a very territorial snake. -It is terrestrial and arboreal; it is fast on the ground and above the ground. NO. 2; GREEN MAMBA -It is the Black Mamba’s cousin. -It is green in color. -It is venomous though not as much as the Black Mamba. -It can live on the ground and is just as fast in the trees. -The difference between the Green Mamba and other green snakes is that its eyes are not so big. -It feeds on small poultry rats and other rodents. -It can reach up to 6 feet in length. NO. 3; MOZAMBIQUE SPITTING COBRA -It is a very venomous snake with 2 venom glands. -There are muscles above the venom glands that push the venom to the glands to help it spit up to 6 feet away. -To make things worse, this snake never misses. -When the venom reaches the eyes, it is like sand and rubbing alcohol. -It can cause blindness if not treated. -And if you are bitten by this snake, death, if not treated, is within a few hours. -Mozambique spitting cobras feed on mice, squirrels and even other snakes. -They can grow over 5 ft in length. NO.4; FOREST COBRA -This snake is dark green with black at the tail. -It has a blunt spike at the end of its tail used to scare people who think it contains venom. -It has venom glands that contain lethal neurotoxic venom that can kill an adult in a few hours. -It feeds on rodents. NO.5; CAPE COBRA -This is a brown snake that is venomous though not as much as the forest and spitting cobras. -It is mostly found in Cape town. NO.6; NIGHT ADDER -This snake is usually confused for a black mamba because of its black color. -This is an interesting snake because its cytotoxic venom does not kill but rather destroys the skin. -It feeds on toads and frogs. -Otherwise, it is not a bad snake. ( Just kidding. You don’t want your flesh rotting.) NO.7; BUSH SNAKE -This is a harmless green snake. -It is normally killed because people think it is a green mamba. The difference between a green mamba and a bush snake is that a bush snake has black spots on its body. -This snake is totally harmless to humans. -It feeds on frogs and toads. -It does not grow too long. -If you have a reliable source of frogs and toads, you can have it as a pet. Don’t be afraid of what people will think. NO.8; VINE SNAKE -It is also called a twig snake. -It looks like a dry branch or twig. -I love to call it a deadly beauty. -Its hemotoxic venom causes internal bleeding. A bite from this snake causes a slow but excruciatingly painful death. -These snakes feed on mice, frogs and toads. NO.9; WHIP SNAKE -This snake is brown in color. -It is totally harmless. -It only feeds on frogs, toads. NO.10; HOUSE SNAKE -This is a harmless snake with no venom glands. - It is a constrictor. Actually, one of the smallest I know. -Constrictors squeeze the life out of their prey. -This particular one swallows its prey whole. -It feeds on rodents. NO.11 PUFF ADDER -This snake is brown-yellowish. -Its cytotoxic venom can kill 4-5 men in a few hours. -It can grow up to 3 ft in length. -Puff adders feed on rodents and small birds. NO.12 BOOMSLANG -A female boomslang is usually brownish and the males are green. -Its name means tree snake. So it’s pretty obvious that it lives in trees. -It has a deadly hemotoxic venom and like the vine snake it causes, internal bleeding. -It is also a cannibalistic snake i.e it feeds on other snakes. Crazy!? Right? NO.13 KING COBRA -This one is my personal favorite. -It is called a king cobra because it feeds on other cobras. -It contains neurotoxic venom that basically shuts down the nervous system. -You do not want to be under its kingdom. It’s a pretty mean king. NO.14 INLAND TAIPAN -This is one of the deadliest snakes in the world. -It has neurotoxic, hemotoxic and mytotoxic venom. -You do not want to be bitten by this snake. |
