Rhyming poem about the pandemic written for my church's Writers Ministry
Epidemic Pandemic
By Edwin W. Smith

The world was quite excited
To see what it would bring
The 2020 decade
‘twas hoping for a fling

Alas, that did not happen
And it was not to be
The universe had other plans
And set a virus free

It wore a crown known as Corona
And killed without discrimination
In Arizona and in Barcelona
And infected every nation

We all were asked to wear a mask
Which covers up God’s grace
We could not see a person’s smile
Or their entire face

To conquer this small evil
We washed our hands all day
And sanitized what we might touch
To keep this pest at bay

The order was “no gathering”
And stay six feet apart
No wedding bells or funerals
Which broke a lot of hearts

The race is on for a vaccine
To end this life of fear
And get us back to work and school
And once again live free and clear
