Dedicated to Captain Francis "Red" Jones, Laramie County FD #1
Determination in his step, though sharply bent with age
to boldly face the acrid smoke and cool the fire's rage.

For twenty years he'd bet his life to help his fellow man
but tonight was not quite right, I saw him form a plan.

He motioned to the great red truck and open door beyond
I looked to see a fiery glow in the breaking dawn.

I wondered what was on his mind, his movements stiff and sore
his numbered days had yet to show...I peered back out the door.

I chanced to turn and see his eyes -- he turned his face away
"Well go on boy, take the pump, you haven't got all day."

As we roared into the night I couldn't help recall
how in his gruff and grumpy way, Red had taught us all.
