Packaged at the wrong door
A necessity unfulfilled
A wanted, longed for desire and more.
The porch gets cold and windy
Cobwebs and dead bugs suspended
Picked up briefly and shoved to the corner
Wouldn’t it be better to return to sender?
I just want to be where I’ll be fully received
Allowed to open up and finally be free.
I feel the warmth flow under the door
Sometimes a glance inside
Not much more.

How did I get here?
Deserted and unwanted.
Scratched and tattered from handlers
But fully undaunted.
I was put together to be
Prime, proper and poised
Now, I’m alone and frankly annoyed.

Could it be that I was really supposed to be here?
But you just rejected me at first sight?
Wanted a refund
Because you saw something else nice?
Nicer than me,
The one that traveled so far to get here?
Here within grasp but find you
Without a care?
Caring for yourself and guarded at best.
Though other packages have been held at your chest.
What is this we’re doing?
Just let me go
Because you never really wanted me
In your home.
Inside your heart or carried in your mind.
Though I’ve waited for you to let me in for quite some time.
But you don’t want me
Because I’m still out on the porch.
I’m simply just a package at the wrong door.
