The Mirror

I see a mirror.
Is it me staring back?
I don't recall looking so haunted.
Is that someone behind me?
The dark must be playing tricks on my eyes.

There's movement.
I know there's something there.
I hear my heartbeat in my ears.
This is no trick.

I muster the confidence to turn on the light.
My hand reaches for the switch.
My breath comes faster.
My fingers shake.

The light turns on.
An unnatural face greets me.
I hear laughter.
I am no longer in this world.
