Just beneath the surface
Light rays dance across the rippling waves
Teasingly they penetrate and surround me
Diagonal beams like bullets shot
Resting on the ocean floor
Straight beams like prison bars
Encapsulating me in their bright white warmth
Suspended in this vitreous fluid
Looking up, watching silently
My own breath, the rhythmic beating of my heart
The only cadence that life recites its poetry to me
My eyes fixed above
Reaching as if they could
To break the hold of these molecules so tightly bound, never loosening their grip
There is beauty here too
Yet I gaze through blue tinted glasses
I see it all
The changing of seasons, the cycle of growth, death, and rebirth
And then people come
Just enough to the edge
So careful not to venture beneath
Where I am
I watch them sit with their freedom
Their air...hearing all the sweet sounds I imagine life sings to them
But what I see
While I watch hovering at the surface, just beneath
Is how they all drown just within my reach
