Lyrics to honour old age.
Dark

I watch my skin shrivel like paper in the fire
my flesh retreating leaving sinews like wire
my life is parcelled intended for the ending
it’s too late now for all pretending

My eyesight dimmed but I see quite clearly
I’ve paid the price and I loved it dearly
life’s been good but its course has been run
on with the credits and let it be done.

all this aging and aches and pains
the evidence of all that I’ve gained
my life is parcelled intended for the ending
it’s too late now for all pretending

I watch my skin shrivel like paper in the fire
my flesh retreating leaving sinews like wire
my life is parcelled intended for the ending
it’s too late now for all pretending

Song chosen: Darkness by Stewart Copeland of The Police

I find this song fascinating. Until a few months ago, I was totally unaware of it and could hardly believe how good it is when I first heard it on YouTube. To then discover that it was written by Stewart Copeland and that, apart from providing the voice and the mesmerising bass line, Sting had no hand in the pie, it became doubly interesting. Copeland’s genius as a drummer is apparent throughout the song, even down to the insistent melody provided on the chimes. Add to that the somewhat dark lyrics and the song becomes, to me at least, endlessly magnetic.

In deciding for which prompt to write alternative lyrics, I went for The joys (?) of getting older. They say you should write what you know.
