Happy Birthday to "Baldy!"

Fifty-six years ago, I was only 17, and waiting anxiously for your birth. You were a miracle to me, and to top it all off, your little round head didn't even have any fuzz on it. That day on the spot, you became my "Baldy!" You were such a beautiful and precious baby. Shortly after your birth, we drove you to Georgia to meet your grandmother, Florence Henrietta Brown Washington.

To this day, I remember the twinkle in my Mother's eyes when she first laid her eyes on you. We agreed that Baldy was a good nickname for you, but she refused to call you that and started anointing your head with blessed oil. In about a year, you had a head full of hair. Now, today, it is with great pleasure and honor for me to reach across the miles to wish you a very HAPPY and SPECIAL fifty-sixth birthday. Happy Birthday, my precious niece. Much love to you, and I will always thank God for your being here. Thanking God today for continuing your journey because you have a story to tell. Love you, now CELEBRATE YOUR LIFE today.

Today is one of my brother's children's birthday. Today, Florence, my niece, turns Fifty-six (56) years old. I am at WOW! I was seventeen (17) the day she was born. Oh so long ago.

The sun in Florida was bright, and it was hot. It was a beautiful day to become an Aunt, and I was ready for the challenge. This young woman would grow up to prove that she was a challenge, and today, she has stood the test of time.
