A Brand New Day

Today is the start of a brand new day,
I feel alive, but in a whole new way,
to describe this feeling, I must open up my heart,
and let you hear my secrets, that set me apart.

It's as if I've been asleep, I think for 20 years,
even though I'm surrounded, by all my friends and peers.
I know that all my choices, of which I thought were mine,
based of wealth and riches, I believed to be divine.
These are ideas of society, displayed through media hype,
which we follow blindly, thinking we're that type.

I've played this role, and acted out the scene,
not caring about others feelings, by being extremely mean,
but now I've made a decision, to follow what is true,
to all that makes me real, individual, not being YOU!
