To Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania,
a weeklong Thanksgiving trip;
rural paradise, electric lights
used automobiles, a diner,
rolled up sidewalks aft dark.
Gobbler’s Knob a focal point,
ousted Phil (the groundhog)
supplanted by a turkey
who comes out in the rain;
if he feels it, six more
weeks of umbrellas.
Seven days a-singing
(in the rain.) The
diner is my get-a-way
from away…
Spam the turkey substitute,
some apple butter as side,
cold showers in my
Bed and Breakfast.
Seven days I give thanks.
No wireless coverage,
but no one has a smart
phone anyway—
Days drag on
time stops.
Diner coffee
keeps me awake
even when I’m dreaming.
