Strangers meeting, love that lasts
She sat there in perfection
A vision for my eyes
Her blond hair did shimmer
Casting shadows of surprise!

With fear & trepidation
I sat near her that night
Dreaming of her beauty
Within her very sight.

Her partner sat beside her
Such a very lucky man
So I could only watch & wait
Enjoying what I can!

I glanced in admiration,
Chatting lightly when I could.
Knowing I should move along
But, my legs were made of wood.

He left her for a moment,
I glanced into her eyes
Her smile it lit the room up,
I felt wonderful and wise

Had it ended in that moment,
Nothing more than that warm smile
My New Years would be happy,
My evening, well worthwhile.

The Gods’ that night smiled on me
Her friend was just a friend
As I held on to my heartstrings,
Hoped this wouldn’t end.

We chatted quite pleasantly
Then danced a dance or two
She floated in my arms until
My heart it fluttered too.

I strove to be a gentleman,
My movements quite correct
I yearned to hold her boldly
From waist up to her neck.

She said most men are callous,
Each one I date at least,
They play til my heart’s taken
Then leave me for the feast.

Twas then I knew I loved her
And stayed with her that night
Decades passed with wonder
Our love and care so bright.
