Melock was bored. Possessing a human child might offer a mild distraction.
Melock was bored. In his one hundred thousand years of what passed for life, he had fallen into a routine. He'd listen to the souls of the damned cry their cries of agony, he’d bathe in the lakes of fire, he'd lounge in the pits of sulphur, and he’d torture the souls under his domain. Melock was a powerful and highly respected devil, but he couldn't imagine spending the rest of eternity like this. Once he roamed the earth causing pain and destruction wherever he went; that was until He cast him and the other devils and demons into the centre of the earth.

He needed a change, he wanted some excitement. After dropping a soul into the lake of fire he spent a hundred years torturing, he thought he'd possess someone. He'd never done it before. Some of the younger devils or lesser demons sometimes took a human body to wear for a while until they were exorcized or the host died. The demons or lesser devils would be hurt by the ordeal and would take a couple of centuries to heal, although Melock doubted that a human could hurt a powerful being such as him. He knew there was still a risk, and, anyway, even if he was hurt a century or two was nothing in the life of a devil. Melock thought he should try it. He felt a little ridiculous, it was a game usually played by the young, but in his youth, there was nothing worth possessing. Humans offered nothing at the time. They were hairy and stupid, closely resembling their ape cousins.

Melock looked to the earth’s surface and entered a body. It was easier than he'd expected. It belonged to a young girl named Julie. She was eight years old and had a cat named Toby that she loved more than anything, he learned the moment he entered her. At first, he didn't do much; he looked through her eyes and witnessed the world as a child would. It had changed. There were more people now and they had built so much.

Melock found he could leave his host body a few brief moments and walk around the world as long as he stayed close to Julie; even though he was weak and incorporeal when he left her body, at least it offered some freedom. The demons couldn't do that but he was a true devil. He found he could talk to her, so he pretended to be her friend. It was easy to get her to trust him, children are so easy to manipulate.

He found amusement in moving objects around her room even though it was difficult to do and he would exhaust himself after, but at least it was something different. Sometimes when he was inside of her, he could make her do things if he really concentrated; it was easier when she was asleep. At first, he'd explore her home while wearing her body. He'd look through the house, he'd watch her parents sleep, he'd touch things just for the sensation, and ate for the first time in his life. It was thrilling. He strangled her cat and left its body on the kitchen table. It amused him.

As the years passed Melock became addicted to being the child, he wanted more and grew bolder. He’d take her body for longer and longer periods as he grew stronger. Made her act out in public just to watch her humiliation. He’d tell her to do things just to watch her parents’ wrath against her; if she refused he’d punish her. Her parents grew angrier with her. He was no longer satisfied with merely taking her while she slept--borrowing her body as if he were some kind of a beggar looking for a handout. It wasn’t good enough, it was degrading, he wanted more, he wanted to live as her. Melock was one of the first devils, he had strength beyond all demons and most devils; he was a general in the dark army and fought against His army. He could do it: He could be her.

When Julie was sixteen Melock tried to take her. He forced himself into her body and pushed out her soul. But the human soul was stronger than he expected and refused to go. He tried to wear her body around his own, like a jacket made for someone much smaller. He fought her for the first time. She pushed him out. That bitch, how dare she. He found himself back in the underworld. He took a moment to get over the shock and to build his strength before forcing himself back into her body.

He raged and screamed; he thrashed and roared. Her body was tied to a bed, he was immobile. He punished Julie, scratched her skin, tore her flesh, ripped her hair. He raged at her parents who visited nightly. He told her mom to suck his dick, called her dad a fucking faggot; he laughed at their pain. Being tied to the bed wasn’t ideal but it was still fun in its own way. They fed her, he still enjoyed the taste of food, then he would vomit it back up and spit it on them when they weren’t expecting it. How he laughed.

Then they involved Him. Melock could never understand why He wanted humans as his representatives, yes they were fun to use, but they were not soldiers, they were weak.

Two bead mumblers came with their book and prayers to force Melock out. They threw holy water on him, it burned, actually burned; they held up their cursed crosses, it felt like electricity travelling through his body. Melock swore at them, he cursed them, he knew their secrets and threw it back at them. He cursed their mothers; he insulted their cocks. He spat vomit on them, he pissed himself, he sprayed shit on them. He had so much fun. He could’ve left anytime he wanted to, taken another body, but he wanted this body and he was curious to see what would happen next.

Prayers were said over him. He trashed and cursed; he felt himself weaken. The holy water burned more than ever. He cried in pain. He decided to destroy the body he possessed before leaving. He raked her skin, swallowed blood, tried to stop her heart. The bead mumblers read their prayers; he swore in every language he knew. The crucifixes hurt him, the water hurt him, he weakened.

He was forced out of the body. He found himself back in the underworld. He looked around at the familiar lakes of fire, the pits of sulphur, listened to the cries of the tortured. He enjoyed his little adventure on the surface, the holy water burned but it was worth it. He figured he’d try possession again in the next millennium or so, once he was strong again, it was fun after all.
