Entry for Writers Cramp 7/7/19
Prompt:You are visiting the zoo when something happens. What is it? What do you do? Write a poem or story.

(Examples: a monkey escapes, an elephant steals someone’s purse, a child falls into the flamingo pond, etc.)

While I was visiting the zoo,
A pink flamingo came into view.
He strutted lithely to and fro
With no important place to go.

Around the corner, was a fuss.
There stood a hippopotamus!
He wasn’t happy-me, oh my.
And I was left to wonder, “Why?”

There on the left a wart hog stood
Rooting grubs under a piece of wood.
Curious creature, I stopped and stared,
He growled and positively glared!

Elephants and kangaroos
Orangutans, yaks and monkeys, too
Were roaming freely-not in cages
Amidst zoo-goers of all ages!

A cockatoo flitted past my head.
An opossum pretended to be dead.
I found this to be quite absurd,
To be considered one of the “herd”.

As I viewed the animals from the tarmac
It occurred to me, “They’re looking back!”
They watched as we pointed-most impolite!
We humans must be the weirdest sight!
