"Hey dad!, Are you gonna say prayers with us?" Jack yelled from his bedroom.
"I'mmm comin" dad replied reassuringly from downstairs.
Jack smiled and laid back in bed, falling onto his soft monster truck pillows. His mother and brother were patiently waiting for his father to come in so they could say their bedtime prayers together.
Jack looked at his mother, "Mom, why do we say prayers every night?"
"Because we need to say what we are thankful for every day and to appreciate what we have."
Jacks 12 year older sister Bella grinned and punched him in the shoulder, "Yea, like I'm thankful that my brother is smaller than me so I can kick his butt and take his toys!"
"Hey, that hurt! Someday I'll be bigger than you and you'll be sorry!" Jack tried to retaliate but was stopped short by his mother.
"That's enough you two. Bella, you be nice to your little brother."
Jack and Bella exchanged their dirtiest looks. A moment of silence went by before they heard the sound of their dad coming up the stairs with a sense of urgency.
He jumped into the room. "Lets do this!"
He knelt down beside his mother a gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"Hey honey. Sorry I took so long. I just had to finish packing the boat for fishing tomorrow."
