The poem is about a lizard which I see every day. |
Lizard He is a huge lizard, Neither dangerous nor a health hazard Unlike the mosquitoes or the cockroach He gives me no room for reproach, With bulbous eyes and a shiny skin And with a huge body, he looks a croc’s kin, His menacing look and the belligerent eye Makes the timid children instantly cry, Never does he venture out during day, But when the sky turns dark gray And bulbs and tubes begin to glow, Out of his hiding, he emerges slow, Nothing escapes his keen sight, He darts about to his left or right And pounces upon the unwary prey, Leaving none who comes his way, His hide out I know not, Or whether he is single or what Or what he does during day, I have nothing to say, He gorges on those that crawl about him, Whether they be fat or slim, He has grown extremely stout Because of sumptuous food, no doubt, Yet he is quick on his feet And catches his prey clean and neat, He stands his ground with his prey, Once caught, none can get away, I see him sometimes staring at me When he is a bit free, But in a second he flies When a bumbling prey he spies, I watch his antics every day Sitting on my chair far away, A diversion he is to me For truly a dramatic person is he.
