Through the eyes of a child

Through the eyes of a child the colours of the world are bright,
Happiness shines through every single experience felt right,
Through innocent lens the world is at peace,
And faces illuminate freedom and ease,
Seeing the good behind expressions of greed,
Giving what little they can to satisfy your needs.
A penny found under the couch,
A rose plucked from the gardens pouch,
A drawing with faces a smiling,
And an I love you said soft and sweet is beguiling.

Looking back, I question my aim,
To grow fully and be thrown ruefully into a world with no gain,
The lens of my childhood now removed,
A shield of deceit no longer in guard to behoove,
Hiding from innocent eyes the colours of the world as they are truly,
Like a phantom reality comes creeping upon the self almost cruelly.
Easy it becomes to forget,
the good instilled within by a former figure or figurate,
and turn away from words told wisely to walk towards a path untimely.

What you were and are to become relies heavily upon perception, so...
Look back and remember those days,
Days wherein your heart loved easily,
And words were said cheerfully.
Remember the grandmother who held your hands close
And told stories through nights of chaos and woes.
Hold onto memories of walks in the park with a loved one bygone,
whose face you yearn to see and recall, but doth not conjure upon.
Remember the mother who nursed you to health,
When sickness and sadness was all that you felt.

Remember and cherish all that was good and sublime
For the memories we create during this childish time,
Will help us soar through life when our vision is no longer obscured.
