Start of a vampire story |
Burning. She hasn’t even opened her eyes and she feels it. The hunger. Sharp. As sharp as her teeth. Burning in the back of her throat, fire in her stomach. She must hunt. Kill the pain. Ease the ache. On instinct alone, she rises and sniffs the air. There’s one. To the left. A leap and she is airborne, slipping through the current as if she were born doing this, instead of being created over a hundred years before. As if she had never known a life previous. She was normal once. Thoughts of the innocent times start to rush into her mind. No, can’t think about that. Only think about the present, and the prey. Hunt. It’s closer. Salty, tangy, bitter, all at once. The only substance that will quench the fire. The prey is a half mile away, but her sharp eyes can see him already. Teeth elongate, caressing her bottom lip. Calming energy emanates, sending out a false sense of security. Whatever fear he felt in her arriving has disappeared. She lands and cloaks herself in a glamour, teeth hidden. Stepping out, she looks at him with her seductive message in her eyes. His thoughts tell him he is in no danger, erroneously believing he has fallen in love at first sight. Like all of the others that have come before him, he rushes to her embrace, into a lover’s kiss. Filled with a passion he has never known, he attempts to devour her essence. She feels, smells the hot rush of blood course through him, her urgent need stronger. Her lips lower to the pulse in his neck, and with a deft, tiny nibble, penetrates. Instead of the pain he should feel, the nerves tingle with an erotic mysticism, pure pleasure throbbing. Nothing is more important than the here and now, the sweet ache of infinity, happening in seconds. She takes her fill and flies away, leaving him only with the memory of perfection, and a longing that he will never be able to explain. |
