August Procrastination Day

This free verse poem is entered in "The Writer's Cramp" 

The clock and that old watch say to wake up
but you'd rather put it off
Off is what you are turned to
these fine August Days

The blanket appears rather inviting as a hobby,
but you have things on your to-do list,
List imaginary slights and benign neglect more like
these fine summer nights

The knock on the bedroom door jars your serenity
but you bounce back with something approaching a shrug
Shrug it off and go back to bed
these fine yearly motivational techniques

never worked anyway, predicated on mendacity.
