“Into the arms of love I fall.”
I know the phrase but don’t recall
where I’ve heard it. In a poem?
Or on the radio, at home?
To me, I find it quite banal
Devoid of freshness or originality; hackneyed; trite.
We act as if love was a prize.
We use it now to advertise
vacations, perfume, underwear –
a coupon for a cheap airfare.
There’s no emotion, just franchise
A license granted to market products or services.
Love is a feeling not defined
by phrases that keep it confined.
Perhaps we should avoid using
the word since it's so confusing.
Love's known by the heart – not the mind.
