Peter reflecting on Judas’ actions.
Free Form
Your poem must be no more than 20 lines. Choose a character from the book Matthew. Give a viewpoint from that person.

Following Jesus’s death, Peter reflected on the actions of Judas, formerly one of the twelve...

Son of Kerioth, your head was turned
By 30 pieces of silver. How quickly you gave Him up
To the oppressors who stole Him from Gethsemane’s
Lush gardens that fateful night. Was this a long time plan?
Did you conspire with demons as we shared the Teacher’s travels,
Or, did you plot as we shared His table, breaking bread together?
Did you despise Him for the entire three and a half years of His
Ministry here on earth? When did your callousness grow?
We called you brother, friend,Yet, you betrayed Him;
Sent Him to the cross at Golgotha, where He died a painful death...
But, surely, we now know He Lives again!

Not so, you, whose body is carrion for the fowls of the air.
In your final hours, you chose to take the life you were given
By hanging from a tree. The deed was done.
Not one earthly thing could be done to retract your actions.
Forever, you are branded a traitor.
