Beautiful Islands

The World Fact Book show three pictures of these beautiful islands6. The first, show the pristine beach of Union Island. In this photo you can see verdant, forest covered mountains raising behind the beach. On the beach are two canoes, while in the distance--walking along the beach--you a see a some of the islands inhabitants walking. The population, according the the World Fact Book, consists of only a few hundred people.

Behold the beauty of nature
unmarred by the trash of modern civilization.

The second photo show Bequia beach on one of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines larger islands. This picture, also, shows the verdant beauty of nature, with tall palm trees and waves washing onto the beach. In addition, to the natural beauty, there is part of a rocket booster washed up on the beach. This photo reveals that there is no spot on the planet that is immune to the junk of modern civilization.

Natural beauty marred
by technology left to float
in the ocean and washed up on a beach.

The third photo shows St. Vincent's jungle. In this picture, you can see the remains of lava flows from the eruption of La Soufriere volcano, which took place in 1979. The rocks in this photo are the only things left to indicate that La Soufriere erupted.

Lava flow remains,
in the form of rocks,
enhance the beauty of St. Vincent's jungle.

These photos emphasize the fact, that plastic is not the only thing human being throw into the oceans. While plastic, at this time, may be the worst pollutant there are other things that have the potential of being just as bad or worse. We humans are responsible for the way we treat and pollute this planet. We have to find a way to recover or prevent pollutants from being disposed of in the ocean.
