A short story about a day to remember or forget!

>> The Trouble <<

An important day in Ravi's life and understandably he was very excited. He was on his Red Sedan thinking how he met Ranjani with whom he fell in love at first sight. Five years flew like an overnight dream and today is their wedding engagement.

09:00am - Ravi's family members had already arrived at the venue for the engagement. He's still on his way and he had planned to drive himself to a nearby sweet shop to buy Ranjani's favorite ones, something they have happily shared quite often.

09:20am - Knowing that it's already late; Ravi parks his car and hurriedly enters into the shop. He is excited and nervous. There's not much time to look back, so he wanted to grab the sweets and hurry to the venue afraid of what Ranjani will say more than his parents for reaching late.

10:05am - There's joy everywhere and everyone in the family is super excited for Ravi and Ranjani. With rock music in the background, the red sedan enters the party venue. No one nearby can hear the music but Ravi does in his heart. The sedan too was an old model, but to him, he was on Mercedes today.

10:40am - It's a colorful ambience, friends and family gets ready and eagerly looking towards the stage. The pair looks adorable and it's time for the engagement ring! Ravi slowly slips the ring to her girlfriend's hand amid loud cheer, applause and laughter.

At a distant, hears a siren and it gets louder as a white jeep slowly makes its way towards the party hall entrance. There were two policemen and along with them was a short guy whom the policemen had brought along with them to identify a suspect. The short guy 'Kumar' scans the whole party area until he spots the young man on the stage wearing a silky red kurta and white pajama. The policemen hastily move forward to handcuff the identified young man who was none other than Ravi.

The sight of policemen at the party leaves the entire zone in silence and shock. Ravi is being dragged out of the party hall. One of the investigation officers spots the sedan and seizes around 1 kilogram explosives at the car's back seat. He clicks few pictures and tows the car with them to the police station.

12:30pm - Ravi is devastated and confused after being interrogated for almost 2 hours. He was seated at a corner of a wooden bench along with few other men who looked like they were regular to the station and definitely part of the city's hall of shame.

"How did the explosives came to his car? Who's behind this crime? Why was he detained at first place? What his family members doing right now? Why didn't they turn up at the police station for him?" Ravi was building a mountain with all such questions and visibly looked clueless. Thoughts about Ranjani filled his mind crushing all the other questions. "Will her parents marry her to someone else if he cannot come out of this case forever?" was thinking Ravi.

02:15pm - The police officials does another round of interrogation and this time Ravi is put in a dark room. Things had turned dreadful and intense in no time. There was no other human in the dark room and Ravi had been lamenting about it the past few hours and talking to himself.

"Wait, wait!!" said his voice to him, "I did not see the explosives pack in my car when I drove to the party hall this morning, did I?" Then, how this would have happened to me? He choked and broke into tears. "Damn! I got the clue! I did park the car to go to the sweets shop, did something happen during that time?" he examined himself. It took only few seconds to realize that he must have left the car unlocked before entering the shop. "What an Idiot!!" and he must have done this so many times, but this time there's no getaway. He was just gone for few minutes leaving his sedan unlocked and someone had slipped through the package.

With a sense of dejection and heavy heart, he swiftly gets up to a loud alarm. The room looked darker, creepier to him and he was staring at a photo frame hanging just in front. It was his picture that appeared as if it was mounted at a 45 degree inclination. "I was brought to this station few hours ago and already I'm framed into this hall of shame!! Oh God! I've ruined my life!!" he grumbled. He remained there for few minutes. A ray of hope and recovery struck his heart when he found himself still on the bed and his dark bedroom was not creepy anymore. He quickly looked at the wall clock and it was only 3:00am.

"What the..!! Now where's the car?" He jumped out of his bed and hurried to his parking. "Thank god, I have locked the car. It was just a dream. Morning, I'm not going any sweet shop. Let's not drive alone too" he reassured himself going back to his bed.
