A piece about a beautiful child gone too soon.
Butterfly Fly Free

I looked out the window
On a sunless fall day
And saw a butterfly flying free,
Who was too busy with her business
To see looking, peering me.

Your mama once told me,
“Today isn’t a day for tears,
But for love, love, pure love.”
But the water in my eyes
Is reflecting my fears.

Little butterfly you spent your life
Showing us who we should be,
And now you fly free
I am happy to have been touched
By your beautiful heart.

I know you look down from heaven
And see those who carry your banner,
Wishing, working, praying for a cure
Fighting until cancer is beaten,
And we can say, “NO MORE!”

Mama and daddy still cry for you.
You will never be replaced
In the hearts of family, friends,
And loved ones it is true.
We will always love you.

I looked out the window
On a cloudy autumn day
And saw a butterfly flying free.
I said a prayer to Jesus,
Thanking Him for you;
Hailey, our little sun ray.
