I write you letters
I know I'll never send.
An avalanche of words
never read.


I hide them from myself
and from you.
In folders and drawers.
Hidden from thought and view.


Have I ever said what I meant?
Between us, an ocean of words,
but I never know
if what I said is what you heard.


There's this siren call,
an ink tainted tide.
Pen to paper.
Painting truths I'd rather hide.


I write.
One page after another.
I say what can't be said
to my friend, never my lover.
