A spoof of time travel fantasies or the opening sketch of a certain TV show.
The year was 1965. At a junior high school somewhere in the Midwest, an eighth grader named John was working on a science experiment when he was overcome by gas from the jets at his desk in class.
He regained consciousness after several minutes, but he seemed to be in a trance upon being revived. Scanning his classmates and his teacher, rose and made this eerie pronouncement.
“I have seen the future,” he declared. “I have gone ahead in time 10 years and I have seen the future in seven words!”
Seven words? A mixture of curiosity and fear gripped his classmates and the teacher.
What were those seven words? And what did they mean? Some great accomplishment that would benefit the world like never before? Some tragedy that would affect everyone in the room?
The teacher motioned for one of John’s classmates to get his notebook and a pen.
“What are the seven words John?” he asked the pupil. “Write them down, please.”
John quickly scribbled the words, slumped back and then prepared to rise again.
What were the words which represented the future? The secret to world peace? The cure to cancer? Could they have been the time and day when man would first set foot on the moon?
They could have been, but NOOOOOOO!
John pulled himself to his feet, cast an anxious look around at his teacher and classmates and proclaimed the seven words of the future.
“Live! From New York! It’s Saturday night! ”
