A brief poem about persistence - 2018
Strike One
Two
Three
I'm out

Third time's the charm
Or so they say
But what about fourth?
Fifth?
Sixth?

Take me out of the game
My arms are getting heavy
I'm no slugger
I don't even know the rules
The balls just keep zooming by,

Six strikes is two outs
Seven eight nine
Is an inning
And one more for good luck
Brings us ten

The score's oh and ten
I'm out
out
out
But they tell me to keep batting
To keep swinging

I can't help by get discouraged
They tell me I'm bound to hit one
But nothing has made me believe this
Maybe I'm not cut out for this game.
