A writing exercise from Take 10
One nasty thing I have never been able to overlook is my friend’s natural ability to overcome any obstacle without any overt effort. When asked about it, she states that she considers all things in their kinship with her and the life she leads. She dares life and even her enemies, to take one step against her, to even dare to sneer at her passion for life, to even try, just once, to make her the zebra hunted by the lion. Then, should someone try, in even the most simple of ways, to demolish all that makes her who she is, they fail and are punished by the universe. There is no need to rehearse what one will say or do when it comes to her, rather, one just takes the lemon that life has handed them, shrugs, straightens their proverbial vest, and moves on, because you cannot break her. She is like the planet Mercury…deadly, distant, beautiful, and best left alone.
