A Child Unloved

Age 4, sobbing when they leave,
Not knowing why.
Why do you leave? Is it me?
Questions you cannot form
Yet you're immensely curious

Age 6, what has changed?
That's right, nothing has
Your life still so full of all this uncertainty.

Age 8, things seem worse now,
they leave more often
but for longer,
and you cannot fathom why.

You don't understand,
wondering 'what's the problem'
but what does it matter?
It doesn't change that you feel
Unwanted,
Unloved or unneeded.
You're just a child who isn't loved
