People describe depression as a selfish sadness
An oceanic despair so deep and cold that it drowns out all the life from your eyes
And at the end of it, they're left wondering where to go or what to do
But for me...

It isn't any of that

For me, depression is a selfless sacrifice
A sky so large I have no hope of ever soaring across
And I remain stuck under the blistering heat of the sun
There is no darkness, because that would mean giving my eyes a break
A break from the light and sounds around me
Which always seem to get under my skin
Depression is knowing that no matter how hard you try you'll never get anywhere
You'll never become anything, and most of all, you'll never change
Things will never change

Depression isn't not being able to feel
Or pushing others away because you don't care enough
It's feeling and experiencing so much
that your very suroundings become overpowering
You want to stop trying to reach the other side of the sky
And just

Fall

Depression isn't selfish
Depression is selfless

Because when it's over
You don't
even have
yourself
