Story poem |
She's a Full Grown Woman. Muffler dragging late for work couldn't make ends meet Family life got the better of me couldn't take any more that week Thinking I'd just cut 'n' run when fate showed me a sign Saw a man with a faded picture who looked old beyond his time Then he looked up from the battered locket he must have worn for years The ash from his stogie fell to the ground and landed beside a tear Said it may not look this way to you but there's a hard lesson I have learned You don't know how high you’re flying till you've already crashed and burned By now she'll be a full grown woman Girl about town with a chip on her shoulder about a Daddy who let her down Said there's nights I wake up screaming still see the tears streaming down her face Stay home and watch your children grow ain't a rainbow worth the chase Never told her about the man I'd seen who looked old beyond his years But I was there at her graduation so proud my eyes overflowed with tears Now it may not look this way to you but there's a hard lesson I have learned You don't know how high you're flying till you've already crashed 'n' burned Cos' by now she'd be a full grown woman Girl about town with a chip on her shoulder about a Daddy who let her down.
