Keep your mouth shut,
that’s what I must learn to do.
Always the one to speak my mind,
I never thought about what I said.
I didn’t realize how hard it would be,
to learn the new skill of being quiet,
holding my tongue instead of blurting out
the first thought that comes to mind.
Months of practice and advice,
too many mistakes to count,
slowly I learned the value,
of keeping my mouth shut.
Keep your mouth shut,
thinking about what you’ll say.
Ask yourself the following questions,
and only then, if you must, speak.
Is it helpful to the person you speak to?
Truth or not - if not, then shut your mouth.
Are you speaking from love or not?
If you are angry, it’s best to hold your tongue.
Life or death is in the spoken word,
so you must consider what you say,
and if you can’t be nice or tactful,
KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!
