The rain in the desert began quickly, almost as if I had opened the faucet in my shower The bright flashes of lightning illuminated the mountains in the distance. Thunder would roll through the canyon and cause me to shiver. The loud rumblings started ever so softly and ending like a cannon shot. The air turned colder and the sky had a greenish tint, just before the large hailstones began to fall. Then it was over just as quickly as it had begun. The next morning, what plants the hail hadn't trampled down, appeared green and fresh. The ground that was once a crackled and dry powder, now was slick and muddy. Low spots still held water. Birds were singing and bathing in the puddles. Today was a new day and I intended to make the most of it.
