A man's Nightmare wakes him.
No matter how far I ran or how fast, it always finds me. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week, maybe even not in a few months. But one night while lying in bed it will find me.
As I prepare for my long night's slumber, unaware of the hell that is about to be unleashed upon me, I kiss my wife goodnight.
A noise wakes me. I lay still, listening. There it is again. I tried to open my eyes and sit up. I can't. Nothing works. I can't open my eyes. I can't move. I scream. I scream my wife's name. Nothing.
The noise, footsteps, gets closer. I hear them slide across the floor. My chest tightens. It stops. Something is standing beside me. I feel it. My stomach tightens, I continue to scream. Struggle to move. Voices growing louder. Mixed, incoherent voices. I can hear screams. Oh God, what is happening? I scream my wife's name again to no avail. I feel something heavy climb on top of me. I searched frantically with my eyes. Blackness. Whatever it is, stops and sits on my chest. I can feel its breath on me. Sweat runs down my body, as the growling creature gets closer. Suddenly my body jolts awake, mine again. I sit straight up in bed. Panting. Eyes open and searching the dark. The air is heavy. I look over and see my beautiful wife still asleep. Oblivious to what has happened.
I kiss her softly.
Sitting with my back to the wall I am unable to return to sleep. I sit in the dark the remainder of the night. Remembering

For I do not fear the dark
I fear the creature trying to escape it.
