Random thoughts on life
(Elizabeth's Poetry )(May 2017)

Then I Grew Up

I thought I could choose who I loved and how I loved. Then I met you.

I just Knew I would be instantly a great Mom, because my Mom was. Then I became a Mom and never
a great one.

Sitting at my Grandfather's feet I knew I would never forget the stories he told. Now I wish I had
written them down.

I learned too early that Daddy's die. And Step-Daddy's have big hearts.

I thought lightening bugs were great night lights. Until I woke to a Mason jar of dead bugs.

I thought whippoorwills would change it's song and not always be so lonely.

I figured out that no amount of wishing and praying can keep my Mom young. And suddenly I find my hands look just like my Mommie's hands.

I just knew if I kissed you long enough and hard enough that you would kiss me back.
THEN I GREW UP ! (word count 159)
