Through the peephole,
my life passes before me.
Memories etched in crimson
cut deep into the heart none can see.

Through the peephole,
flashbacks flood my mind.
Abuse at the hands of others
chars and blackens hidden thoughts.

Through the peephole,
remembrances of love still hold.
Silver linings in golden threads
show love to repair the damage done.

Through the peephole,
strength comes from within,
passed on from those who came before
to be used when I need it most.

Through the peephole,
my life passes before me.
Good and bad mix together -
a tempest of a life lived well.
