We are always free to Love again - 12/16 Flash Fiction
Tabitha put down her writing quill and gently blotted the ink on the thin paper before folding it neatly and setting it beside the candlesticks on the old desk. Her husband Samuel was sure to find the note later that evening when he returned from work in the back fields.

Tabitha rose from her chair and glanced about the simple cabin she and Samuel had called home for the last ten years. She had kept a tidy house, and everything was in order. Samuel would be able to get by easily enough without her. She had burned all of her herbs and parchments of spells, and buried her talismans and scrying tools in the forest the day before. The self-professed witch hunters who were even now marching up the well-worn lane to arrest her would find no evidence against her beloved.

She flipped her shawl over her shoulders and slid each glove over her thin hands. Then she reached for the door knob and pulled the door open before the crowd could even reach her front porch.

Boldly she gave herself to angry hands, and she was lead away to the town proper and the stake on which she would be burned. Tabitha smiled as she thought of Samuel, and she knew she would soon be free to find her love once more.
