A young girl going to visit her dad for the summer, but nothings easy. |
My name is Clara and I am 11 years old. My parent divorced last summer. Now I have a schedule. When am I at my dad’s? when am I at my mom’s? It’s really hard. I have been staying with my mom in California since the divorce, but my dad requested half the custody. This summer I have to go stay with him. I have to go on an airplane by myself. I have to leave in three days. My mom bought me a phone for the trip to keep in touch. She put her and my dad’s number in there. Then, the day came, I have to leave California. My mom dropped me off at security, then we departed. I almost got lost in that airport. It was so crowded and confusing and everybody pushing me out of the way. When I finally found my terminal, I was so happy to finally sit. My flight was leaving in two hours. So, I fell asleep on the chair I was sitting in. I nearly missed my flight. When I was on the airplane, I was so bored. The flight attendant kept asking me if I was ok because I was alone. Her name was Isabelle. She asked me where I was going. I told her I was going to stay with my dad for the summer. She asked where he lived, and I said Kansas. Isabelle then told me that I was on the wrong flight. The flight I was on was going to Minnesota. I had to get off this airplane. I asked her when we were landing, she said in a hour. I stayed silent the rest of the flight, wondering how I was going to get to Kansas. Once the airplane landed, I called my dad, but there was no answer. I kept trying and trying, still no success. I finally just called my mom, she answered, sounding worried. I told her that I got on the wrong flight, and that my dad won’t answer his phone. She sounded even more worried than before. She told me she hid some money in my backpack, just in case this happened. I went to the desk and asked for a ticket to Kansas. There was only one ticket left, so I took it. The only thing was that it left in a half hour. I had to run to security. Luckily, there was no line. It only took ten minutes through security and collecting my bag and my phone. I almost forgot my passport, so I went back and put it in my bag. I had to run to my terminal. I got there just in time, before they would proceed to take off. I was finally was on the right flight. This flight was left pretty late, so I went to sleep for a while. I woke up right before landing. When we landed, I saw my dad. At least something went right. He told me that my mother called and told him the situation. It actually wasn’t that bad of a summer. In August, I had to fly back to California. This time I got on the right airplane, and got home safely. Hopefully when I come visit my dad again at Christmas, I won’t get on the wrong plane and do it all again. The End |
