A poem. Enjoy!
The boy sits under the oak tree
And drops his pain in tearful bits
Until he can cry no more
Hearing then the creak of the nearby kitchen door

His mother enters upon this melancholy scene
And they wonder together how fate could be so mean
They tried so hard to stay and bear the mistreating
But now the monster is asleep and the two will soon be fleeing

The darkness closes in around
As the two sob without a sound
The swelling of the mother’s eye
Gives her son more cause to cry

They tiptoe in and pack their bags
As the spirit they hold on to sags
They shuffle off into the night
Knowing deep down what they are doing is right

They know that the man in the morning will wake
And tear apart the house, their noses searching to break
But he wouldn’t find them, they wouldn’t be there
For they had stayed too long already to bear

The love of the mother for her child shone through
Because of what she knew she must do
Their life of abuse was to be nevermore
As the burden was lifted that they had bore.
