Maskings


Hamlet once soliloquized on abilities, existence
and choices. The play, King Lear has
247 references to the ability to perceive.
Masks deflect in many directions, possibly confuse
both observer and the masked. Many choose
to hide behind false expressions so that mere visuals
may not be trusted. Actions...

The actors play the world, the stages as much
in our minds as on the boards. Magicians who
use illusion to trick, to trap,
so that one believes in the nonexistent,
decisions made based upon wisps and desires.
Masks betray beyond to taint the ear,
to fool they who listen lightly. Speak...

Words, but sounds strung together to convey
truth or lie, easily misconstrued: connotations
denoting our experience, our openness, our walls.
Minds, like carnival mirrors, may reflect or distort
until darkness renders stillness, until weightlessness of panic
steals solid purchase and we flounder. Like music,
notes may exist in harmony or discordant noise. Louder...

Protestations screamed profane reality. Methinks to
watch in silence, over time. For tis only time which utters
truth: in one direction or another. And only actions over time--
defy the masks, shatter them such there be
no place, or need to hide. Only then can light reveal
decomposition or truth. Poets play with phrases,
but life, indeed, needs be more. Than words.
