Poem about domestic violence, for Love Shouldn't Hurt Contest
~What's Left~
        by ~Minja~

I told you to stop
     showing love in weird ways--
     imprinting reds into my face,
     blues on my hands,
yellow rose, green rose, black rose of my days.

I went to police
screaming your name to a stranger
begging him to keep me out of danger
from a person who's never meant to be a changer,
to change me, to change you, to change him, to change her.

I bought a gun
     seeking for my own protection
for you, my love, and your affection
and the next time you make me feel blood's heat advection
one shot, two shots, three shots if you make an objection.
