Stopwatch

Jenny woke up on Friday just like any other day. She went downstairs to eat breakfast and noted she was running late. So she shoveled her breakfast into her mouth and grabbed her backpack. As she was heading out the door she caught sight of the bus leaving her street. As quick as she could she snapped her fingers and the bus stopped. She looked at her wristwatch ; it had also stopped. Jenny slowly walked to the bus and walked in side. Jenny took a seat next to her best friend , Chad Mullin , and snapped her fingers. In that instant the bus moved again and chad unfroze. Chad quickly noticed her sitting next to him and asked "Where'd you come from?" She replied by saying "I was here the whole time." Jenny hated lying to her best friend about her powers, but if Chad knew he would freak out. Chad didn't know she could freeze time. Jenny sat there on the bus and talked to Chad for the rest of the ride. When they got to school Jenny and Chad headed to their first period class: 9th grade honors algebra. The teacher Mrs Pax had been reviewing exponents on the board when Jenny and Chad walked in. The two students quickly took their seats and the teacher started taking attendance. When the class started Jenny got bored so she went to th bathroom. As she walked to the bathroom with the pass she spotted Dash Walker , the school bully , treatening Alex Wattson. Jenny walked over to them and heard what they were saying. "I...I dont have any money Dash" Alex said quivering. "ok then I guess ill have to beat the money out of you." Dash said as he was about to punch. "ple - please dont - "Alex stuttered before being interupted by Jenny "stop it Dash! " commanded Jenny. There was silence for a second the Dash threw Alex down and stomped over to Jenny. "oh how cute look at the little freshman thinking you can boss the seniors around. " Dash laughed. He was about to punch Jenny when she snapped her fingers. Jenny calmly walked around Dash , tied his shoes together, and stood five feet in front of Dash's fist. She snapped her fingers again and Dash unfroze. He finished his punch, missed by five feet , and fell on the floor right in front of Jenny. From behind Dash, Alex laughed. "Who you laughin' at!" Dash yelled. Dash got up and tried to run after his victim but fell on his face again. Dash looked down at his shoes, untied them , and ran the opposite way down the hall but not before giving Jenny a look that screamed "Ill get you for this!" Alex walked up to Jenny and said "thank you, " and hurried to his class. The rest of the day was uneventful for Jenny. It was Monday in the lunch room when Chad was called to the guidance office. Chad took one look at Jenny and she knew she had to come with him. They were greeted at the door by Miss Summers the school guidance counselor. Miss Summers looked at Jenny and gently said "Stay out here ,its personal." Jenny took a seat outside the office and couldn't help wondering what was happening in there. Jenny waited there for about thirty minutes before her best friend came out crying. Concerned , Jenny asked "what's wrong ? " Still crying , Chad handed her a picture of a woman in her forties dead on a carpet due to a bullet wound in the back of her head. Jenny flipped the picture over and in neat cursive pen writing it said :

Connie Mullin murdered at 7:48am on November, 3rd, 2014.

Jenny handed the photo back to Chad ,shocked. She couldn't believe it, she had just seen Chads mother last week when she went over Chad's house to study. Chad's mom had loved him dearly and his dad had died in a car crash when he was only two. Jenny was speechless she didn't know what to say. She started by asking him "Are you ok?" Chad only cried and said "Miss Summers said I have to go into foster home by the end of the day." Then he started running down the hall as Jenny followed. They went upstairs , past classrooms, past posters until finally they stopped at the roof of the school. Chad got onto the edge of the roof and looked down, it was about a hundred foot drop. "What are you doing!" yelled Jenny. She knew that he wouldn't survive the jump and apparently Chad knew it too. Chad said "I have no motivation anymore! My mom and dad are dead, I might as well be too." Jenny started crying and said "No Chad don't. We can work this out." "Jenny , good bye" said Chad. Chad leaned his weight towards the edge of the roof. Then Chad bent his legs to jump and just as his feet left the roof Jenny snapped. Chad was caught in mid air. Jenny walked over to Chad , dried her tears, and pulled chad back onto the roof ,safe and sound. Then she snapped her fingers again and he landed in the middle of the roof ,safe. Not knowing what just happened Chad collapsed on the ground crying. Jenny asked "Hey! Doesn't your aunt live next door to me? Cant you live there? " Chad looked up and said "I guess I could." The next day Jenny helped Chad move all his stuff into his Aunt's house. Chad was still upset but he tried to look at the positives. A week later Jenny and Chad went to Miss Mullin's funeral and laid her to rest. Chad was admitted into therapy to help him with the loss. Two years later Jenny and Chad are still best friends and Jenny told Chad about her powers. Chad was amazed and asked a ton of questions like "Why does this happen?" "How is this possible?" and "Why only you? " But the question that Jenny worried about most was "Will my children have this power?"
