A poem about Jesus and HIS great sacrifice
Lying there
Not on HIS knees
But prostrate on the ground
WAS Jesus

Open to all
Animals, elements
All things there were
Yet HE lay exposed

Communing with HIS Father
While HE still could
Not wanting the agony
That was offered HIM.

Not the humiliation that
Pained Jesus
Not the unavoidable
physical pain

Not the faithless disciples
Hiding in the dark
Nor HIS people
Willing to accept HIS death.

The agony was separation
The distance sin brings.
Jesus, alone in the garden
Still had HIS Father there.

The Father slumbers not
But is always there.
HE does not sleep
But IS aware of Jesus.

Jesus knew HE would lose
Communion with the Father.
Worse than any torture
Jesus was utterly alone.

The cross allows no hope
Only a prolonged torture.
By accepting sin, holding it
To HIMSELF,

Jesus denied HIMSELF
The succor, eternal
Of HIS Father's presence
Done willingly

When I wonder why
Why does God love me?
How can HE love me?
I am wretched and weak.

Briefly, so WAS Jesus.
Savior, Lord, only Son
Anointed One
Human, yet divine,

I only know this thing
Jesus surrendered all
Alone and wretched
HE rescued me

Inexplicable to me,
This sacrifice
Shows I am loved.
God IS amazing.

Jesus IS eternal and therefore, ancient.
HE IS omniscient and always knew
HE would die for us
Buried inside, Jesus knew
Dying for us meant separation
From the Father.
Before we ever existed
Jesus knew HE would choose
Separation
Before we felt this, Jesus knew.
