Going Up?

Cheryl stepped in the elevator and pushed the button for the tenth floor. The doors hesitated to close but it began its ascent.

"Uh oh."

"Uh oh?" Cheryl asked.

"I think we're stuck."

"No!"

He saw her panicked face. "Hey, it's okay." He pressed the call button.

"Facilities," the woman answered.

"We're in elevator nine and it's stuck."

"Stuck between what floors?"

"Between the fifth and sixth floors."

"How many people are in the elevator?"

"Two."

"Someone will be there shortly."

"Shortly!" Cheryl cried.

"It's okay. I'm Donald," he said.

She shook hands. "I'm Cheryl."

He grinned. "It won't take long. What do you think of this for my sister?" He pulled a pink onesie with feet and a white bow out of a bag.

"It's darling!"

"I have a card too."

She read the poem:

Sweet Pink Angel

Congratulations on your new addition;
A baby girl is a treasure rare;
A sweet pink angel, a little doll,
Nothing else can quite compare.

Her smiles and coos will bring you joy;
She'll fill your hearts with love and pleasure;
So cherish these special infant times,
With your little girl, your precious treasure.

"It's beautiful."

"Hey, we're unstuck."

"Thanks for keeping my mind off of being stuck."

"You're welcome. Um, would you happen to be involved with anyone?"

"Surprised but excited, Cheryl said, "Not at the moment."

"Would you like to go out sometime?"

"Yes."

The elevator stopped on the tenth floor.

She wrote her number on the bag. "I'm looking forward to the call."

"I'll call you tonight. When do you get off work?"

"Four-thirty, but I won't be home until about six."

"Okay. I'll call you at six-thirty."

"Until then...have a great day." She turned and walked away.
