Once I truly loved someone and I still do, regardless of time or situation.

-What We Had, What We Knew-

What we had
What we knew
Any of it true
Increasingly I fear
The answer
At least for you
Is no
You are gone
And I’m here alone
Never was it clear
Why did you go
How could you leave
I loved you more
Than thought possible
More than any heart
Especially mine
Could dare define
Such a lack of clarity
As to why you left
Has left a crater
In my very soul
I’ve tried to fill it
To again make it whole
A complete version
Of who I was before us
But the more I place inside
The more I come to know
That it is deeper
Than ever thought before
Our once inescapable love
Should have been forever
When forever
Was what it was
Least of all
You have since moved on
How, I have not a clue
You tell me you’re happy
You swear it was right
And that you and I
Were meant to fail
So that you and him
Could now succeed
I assure you
That what was done is best
Not because I believe it
But because I still love you
And for you and that love
I’d do anything required
Anything to benefit you
And the happiness desired
What we had
What we knew
Is to you gone
But for me it remains
Stronger in many ways
I swore to you and God above
Until death do us part
And here I am still alive
Living this shattered life
Without you
And in despite of you
I won’t break any promise
No matter the price
Regardless of the reason
You are happy now
And because I love you
I assure you that I’m content
With the idea that what we had
Is forever and ever gone
What we had
What we knew
Is all that I still have
And all that I now know
Call it sad
Say that it’s tragic
Tell me to move on
Do what you need to
While I myself do the same
Love is a mountain we climb
A forever sea we must swim
True love is undeniable
And unbreakable
There can be nothing less
At least as far as I am concerned
There are days and nights
That I wish it wasn’t so
What we had
What we knew
For me remains
As it always did…
