After my son's death, writing gave me grace; this is one of the pieces.
A Grieving Mother

My Dear Friends and Family

Look at me, don't pity me

Cry with me, if you must

Sit with me

Let's talk about my son

Can you feel my pain?

Is it too much to bear?

Can't you see?

When I mention his name

I catch a glimpse of your blank stare

As if to say, It's time...

.....to continue

Inside I scream, "He's gone, he's gone."

I've accepted his death

Don't look away and change the subject

Look into my eyes

And you'll see my soul

But do it quickly, before they roll

You see, it's when you don't acknowledge

My son's departure or celebrate his new life

That grief takes over

But when I hear his name

In a split second you'll see

That spark, that smile

Because my son is safe and loved

By the One who loves him

More than me.
