Inspired from an Code Adam at work
I feel the warmth of your hand in mine.
I never want to let go.
I think of how close I came and I tremble.
I almost lost you.
My mind is racing.
How could it happen so quick.
One second you're here.
The next I feel sick.
Where had my baby gone?
Why had she gone away?
Was there a toy that caught your eye?
Or a monster whose eye you caught?
The not knowing was oppressive.
I could hardly breath.
Even know I can't catch my breath.
I wonder back the way we came.
My eyes roaming.
Searching for ant sign of you.
A flash of blond through the racks.
My heart starts to beat again.
I run to you.
My heart stops.
His mom pulls him into a hug.
How I long to be her.
I'm trapped in a world of fear.
Only focusing on finding my girl.
Someone calls me.
Shakes me.
Ma'am what's wrong?
I can't find her!
Oh God help me!
I hear myself scream.
To her it's only a whisper.
I tell her what you're wearing.
I describe my beautiful girl.
The waiting seams endless.
Someone please bring my worry to an end.
Mommy, mommy!
I turn and see you.
Is it really you this time?
I fall to my knees as you run into my arms.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I sit here watching you sleep.
You have not a care in the world.
How I wish I could have a child's memory.
One circumstance.
Two very different truths.
For you a short little adventure.
For me a terrifying eternity.
You try to turn over.
Please no.
I don't want to let go.
You let me go and turn away.
Forever the independent one
I know I have to let you go.
But tonight I'll hold you tight.
Maybe tomorrow I'll remember how to let go.
Then again maybe not.
Please help me remember.
Please help me let go.
For you to be strong and free.
I have to be strong and let you be.
