A relatively long dwarven verse about the founding of their first city. |
What follows is the Dwarf Verse of the Mountain. It recounts the founding of the first city in the world, Dyn-Gholos, and how the Dwarves sealed the pact they are still bound to today. For explanation: Ogrimbal would be the first king of the Dwarves. Dyanubar is the god of mountains, and eldest of all the gods. The dwarves worshipped him, especially after their pact was sealed. On a final note, I also want to thank the community here for their reviews and kind comments, it really cheers me up and makes me all the more motivated to finally start to write some more. Thanks! (Also, this was a verse/poem I wrote quite some time ago, so it might not be as...smoothly written as some of my other writings). “In bitter cold we toiled away Harsh winter snow showed us the way Descend down into the mountain’s heart The beauty of stone, by time not yet marred Rise he did, Ogrimbal the Great Southward bound we’d be, the hour late Ogrimbal led us to a new home Valleys a plenty, grand peak alone Abrudnizar, the God’s will made real Strengthened our hearts like tempered steel.” - Verse of the Mountain, pt. I “We dug away in caverns deep Disturbed the mountain’s peaceful sleep Created wonders of stone and glittering dust Driven ever forward by our growing lust Yet then the mountain so angrily roared It’s anger now to great heights soared The earth split open, sorrow played it’s game Our race now broken, Ogrimbal reduced to shame.” - Verse of the Mountain, pt. II “Days now passed as time lost its meaning The cries of sorrow remorselessly keening Ogrimbal hidden, lost in dreams of grief He was not to blame, our glory brief Yet on first winter’s day Ogrimbal appeared A bright vision in his mind was seared The mountain was angry, Dyanubar filled with rage A pact had to be made to usher in a new age The Dwarves would protect all that hides in stone Their vigil ending when last dwarf becomes bone For this the mountains sleep a gentle sleep Glory and peace now for the Dwarves to keep.” - Verse of the Mountain, pt.
